The big event is almost here. Only one more week until the city is packed with visitors for the Calgary Stampede, and they’re pouring in from all over.

It’s time for 10 days of non-stop music, rodeo, pancake breakfasts, and cowboy culture. So polish up those boots and maybe even prepare yourself to make some new friends.

It’s not just locals who get excited for the greatest outdoor show on Earth. New Airbnb data shows a nearly 150 per cent increase in searches for Calgary stays during Stampede week, which falls between Friday, July 4, and Sunday, July 13, this year.

So, where are these visitors coming from?

It’s probably no surprise that the summer of Canadian travel means this year’s Stampede will see a lot of domestic visitors. Some of the top Canadian cities that travellers are arriving from include:

  • Vancouver, B.C.
  • Toronto, Ont.
  • Edmonton, Alta.
  • Winnipeg, Man.
  • Saskatoon, Sask.

Of course, that doesn’t mean the Stampede isn’t still getting international attention. Here are the top cities from around the world searching for Calgary stays this Stampede:

  • Palm Springs, California
  • Seoul, Korea
  • London, United Kingdom
  • Sydney, Australia

Pretty amazing how far-reaching our little hometown rodeo can be, right?

The Stampede is an incredibly lucrative time for businesses and Airbnb hosts in the city. Last year, in 2024, Calgary raked in a staggering $7 million during Stampede week alone.

Maybe it’s time to start rethinking how to use that spare room.
