
The University of Calgary (U of C) is making waves globally, landing a spot on a prestigious list of the top universities.Â
The U of C made the cut on a new list by Shanghai Ranking’s 2025 Academic Ranking of World Universities.
The universities are given a score out of 100 based on several factors, such as Nobel Prizes and Field Medals, highly cited researchers, papers published in journals of Nature and Science, papers indexed in major citation indices, and the per capita academic performance of the institution.Â
Ranking among thousands of universities globally, Calgary secured its place in the 151-200 range.
Broken up by region, the University of Calgary is ranked 6-8 best in Canada, alongside the University of Montreal and the University of Waterloo.Â

Only three Canadian universities managed to make their way to the global top 100.
The University of Toronto ranked number one in Canada and 25th in the world with a score of 41.5, the University of British Columbia ranked second in Canada and 53rd globally with a score of 32.3, and McGill University ranked third in Canada and 76th globally with a score of 28.6.
Overall, Canada’s presence is strong with three universities in the top 100, 17 in the top 500 and 28 in the top 1000.
Harvard took the top spot with a score of 100, followed by Stanford University at 76.8 and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a score of 71.2.
The United States swept the top 10 list of globally ranked universities, with eight of the universities being American.
