University of Calgary cracks the top 1% of best universities in the world

University students may have just gotten out of class for summer, but a new report has placed the University of Calgary (U of C) in the top one per cent in the world.
That is according to the 2025 World University Rankings from the Center for World University Rankings (CWUR), an annual academic ranking of global universities that assesses the quality of education, alumni employment, quality of faculty, and research performance without relying on surveys and university data submissions.
U of C ranked #202 out of 21,462 in the world, landing in the top one per cent in the world.
It also came in 75th place when it came to universities in the U.S. and Canada, and eighth place nationally.

The University of Calgary did drop a bit from where it ranked last year, coming in at #195, but was still ranked in the top one per cent.
In case you’re wondering, the top universities in the world are American, with Harvard taking the top spot, followed by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Stanford.
CWUR says it uses seven objective and robust indicators grouped into four areas to rank the world’s universities, including education, employability, faculty, and research.
