Two men rescued after rafting incident on Bow River

Two men found themselves stranded on an island in the middle of the Bow River on Tuesday.

A release from the City of Calgary states that the Calgary Fire Department responded to a call of two men being stuck in the middle of the river after their raft overturned.

The men had been rafting down the river at around 5:10 pm on April 21, when their raft struck a fallen tree, throwing the two of them into the river.

They were both wearing life jackets and managed to climb onto the same tree that they had struck, using that to get onto an island, according to the release.

Being unable to get back to shore, a passerby called 911 and Calgary fire crews launched an inflatable rapid deployment craft upstream and managed to secure the two men.

EMS were waiting on scene, though no injuries were reported, other than the men being cold from having been thrown into the river.

The release also included a link to the City of Calgary’s website detailing safety and guidelines surrounding floating Calgary’s rivers this summer (or spring, apparently).
