Jason Kenney is set to become the next Premier of Alberta, after a landslide victory over Rachel Notley and the NDP.
With a handful of polls still to report, the United Conservative party hold 63 seats to the NDP’s 24.
While Albertans throughout the province are on either side of the fence, political leaders from around the country are sending their messages of congratulations to the Premier-elect.
Statement from Prime Minister Justin Trudeau:
“Albertans have chosen to elect a majority government led by the United Conservative Party. On behalf of the Government of Canada, I offer my sincere congratulations to Jason Kenney who will have the honour and privilege to serve as Premier.
I look forward to working with the provincial government to create good, middle class jobs, build infrastructure, and grow the businesses and industries at the heart of Alberta’s prosperity so the province can remain competitive in our changing economy.
Together, we will address issues of importance to Albertans and all Canadians, including supporting canola producers, and taking decisive action on climate change while getting our natural resources to market.
I also thank Rachel Notley for her years of service as Premier.”
Congratulations to my friend @jkenney on his victory in Alberta tonight! Looking forward to working with Premier Kenney and the new @Alberta_UCP government to help Albertans get back to work and back on track! pic.twitter.com/4IGhZMvyah

Negative and nasty personal attacks didn’t work in Alberta. And in October, Justin Trudeau will learn that they won’t work for him. Canadians will see through his fear and smear.

Congratulations to my friend @jkenney, the next Premier of Alberta!
Albertans finally have a leader to make their province open for business & open for jobs.
And Ontario has another strong partner that will fight for Canadian families against the job-killing federal carbon tax! pic.twitter.com/obM7XGCUpx
