Town near Calgary named one of the best in Alberta to live in
There are plenty of quaint and idyllic small towns around the Calgary area, and one was just named one of the best Alberta towns to live in.
Money.ca, a Canadian financial news and comparison site, released its 10 Alberta towns it called the best to live in, and one town east of Calgary made the list.
The publication stated that for every Alberta town it considered for this list, it applied a set of criteria to determine if it was worthy of being on the list of best towns to live in.
That criteria included affordability and housing availability, community life, safety, access to essentials, education and healthcare, employment, entertainment and recreation, and transit and accessibility.
With a population climbing past 16,000 as of 2024, the Town of Strathmore was selected thanks to it being a “long-standing community, offering a slower pace of life compared to the busier vibes of Canmore or Cochrane,” the publication touted.
Strathmore was also singled out thanks to it being a “sleepier community,” but has grown in recent years as housing affordability has pushed people out of larger towns, along with it being an agricultural hub as well as a region for oil and gas exploration, which means there are plenty of employment opportunities in some of Alberta’s most important industries.

Other towns to make the list included Canmore, High River, and Slave Lake.
