After years of anticipation, Airdrie’s new library and multi-use facility is finally opening. The new facility will span 73,000 sq. ft. and is set to become a vibrant hub for learning, creativity, and community gatherings in the city.
Located at the site of Airdrie’s old fire hall, the new facility has been in the works for years, with the initial concept approved back in 2019. The public will finally get a first look at the space during its grand opening on Saturday, Oct. 4, 2025.
Of the total space, 53,000 sq. ft. will be dedicated to the new library, while 20,000 sq. ft. will be used for the multi-use space.

The facility has been designed to be more than just a library; it’s a place where the community can connect and participate in programs and activities throughout the year. Multi-purpose rooms, office spaces, and an atrium are just some of the amenities available.
Inside the library, visitors will find maker spaces, quiet spaces, meeting rooms, study rooms, and areas for children and youth. The multipurpose portion of the library will feature two art studios, presentation rooms, art exhibition spaces, and two AV production rooms.
Outside, there is a brand-new playground along with a plaza and gathering space for educational and recreational opportunities. An underground parking lot will also be available with around 100 stalls for visitors to park.

The project has three main goals: revitalize downtown, build community and connection, and support Airdrie’s growth. City officials hope that the facility will act as a catalyst for downtown by drawing people in to gather, connect and learn. Airdrie’s population is expected to grow over the next decade, and the facility will offer new spaces and services to meet the needs of the growing population.
