Some areas of Alberta could be under the threat of severe thunderstorms on Wednesday, with certain spots even seeing the risk of huge hail and funnel clouds.

According to Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC), thunderstorm outlooks from the Storm Prediction Centre say that there is an area of moderate risk on Wednesday for large hail and the chance of funnel clouds forming.

The moderate risk zone in Alberta for Aug. 6 is decently wide-reaching and includes the Edmonton metro region, Grande Prairie, and Peace River. Hazards in this area include wind gusts of up to 90 km/h, rainfall up to 50 mm, and hail up to four cm in size.

There is also a section of the moderate risk zone that will see the chance of funnel clouds popping up, which includes Edmonton.

A minor risk zone is also present in large sections of Alberta, with areas like Calgary, Edson, Lloydminster, Banff, and Jasper National Parks potentially seeing thunderstorms with wind gusts of up to 70 km/h and hail up to two cm in size.
