The Dandelion cafe has closed its doors in Calgary

Nov 6 2020, 4:59 pm

The Dandelion cafe just announced it has officially closed its doors in Calgary.

Located at 1048 8th Street SE in Ramsay, the vegan brunch spot aimed to “bring a whole new world to the Calgary scene” by offering plant-forward eats and “healing drinks for your mind and body.”

It opened in September 2018 with a goal to be as close to zero waste as possible. The Dandelion also emphasized supporting local artists.

The business made the closure announcement Friday morning, saying the restaurant’s model hasn’t “lived up to the new conditions.”

The Dandelion thanked customers for the last two years of business.

Here’s the full statement:

Thank you everyone, it has been a magical, inspiring, challenging, and rewarding adventure, but we have decided to close the Dandelion effective immediately. Our model hasn’t lived up to the new conditions. We opened with the intention of being a place of connection and unity where guests, staff and third party providers could join together. Alas, current conditions make this difficult. Thank you to all the dreamers and memory-makers that made our last two years very special. There are some places that have adapted with curbside pick up, delivery and other ideas however we are too far from this to survive. As we look ahead there is potential for someone new to start a restaurant or a coffee shop or something else entirely different and cool. The property is an oasis and we hope it can continue. We hope that you keep us on your radar if you are looking at starting something. Thank you again for allowing us to exist, Calgary. We are honoured to have served you.
