Tate McRae calls Taylor Swift shoutout the 'coolest moment ever'

Calgary-born Tate McRae is still riding high after a shoutout from Taylor Swift a few months ago, when she called McRae’s single “Tit for Tat” a great song.
Just a few months ago, Swift made an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, and during a game, Swift was asked what the last song she listened to by another artist was. Without missing a beat, she said, “Tate McRae has a great new song called ‘Tit for Tat,’ you gotta listen to it.”
McRae quickly shared the moment on her Instagram story, posting a clip from the show, expressing her excitement and appreciation.
During a recent interview with Rolling Stone, McRae was asked about the moment, and she said it was a pretty cool experience.
“I’m such a massive fan, and I adore her. So when I pulled up my phone and saw that she had talked about it, it was one of the coolest moments ever,” she said when speaking with Rolling Stone.

Besides being a big fan of Swift, she also mentioned what it means to have another woman in music notice her work.
“She is such an inspiration for me as a writer and, obviously, as a woman in the industry. For her to acknowledge that was really special.”
McRae also spoke about a weird feeling her mom had before Swift shouted her out on TV. “She said the week before, ‘I feel like Taylor Swift is in your ether right now.’ And I was like, ‘What? That’s so random.'”
Swift also talked about McRae during an interview on Sirius XM’s Morning Mash Up back in October, calling her “amazing.”
McRae has earned many accolades this year, winning four Juno Awards in March, two MTV Music Video Awards in September, and being named Billboard Canada’s Top Canadian Artist for 2025.
