Parks Canada released a new update on the Verdant Creek wildfire today.

“As of Wednesday, August 9th the operational closure of Sunshine Village will be lifted. The Sunshine Gondola, Upper Village facilities, Standish Chair and viewing platform will be open. Hiking trails in the Sunshine Meadows and the Sunshine Village areas remain closed,” reads the statement.

Yesterday evening a new fire was started by a lightning strike in the Eohippus Lake area in Mount Assiniboine Provincial Park. Two helicopters with water buckets were used to combat the blaze. Crews are on the ground today working to extinguish this small fire and Parks Canada is ready to respond to any new fire incidents.
