The Sunshine Meadows trails have finally re-opened as of today.

The trail system features over 12 km of breathtakingly beautiful alpine scenery. Each summer, hikers flock to the trails and enjoy the rare beauty of the Canadian Rockies.

The trails were closed on June 16 due to the nearby Verdant Creek Wildfire.

Oh Standish, our Standish! We’re looking forward to hiking the beautiful trails around you again tomorrow.

Over the weekend, Parks Canada successfully prevented the fire from spreading in the North Simpson area and, as of July 23, Parks Canada reports that they no longer deem the fire to be a risk to the Banff Sunshine area.

With the re-opening of Sunshine Meadow’s, Banff Sunshine Village’s summer operations return to full capacity.

Guests are advised, however, that they may see smoke in the distance while hiking through Sunshine Meadows.
