Aperitivo is an Italian tradition of enjoying a glass of wine or cocktail and some light plates of food, and now Calgarians can go out and experience this at the city’s first authentic aperitivo bar, SS106.
SS106 is run by Calgary-born Domenic and Francesca Spadafora, who draw on their Italian roots as their inspiration for the eatery. The siblings have put together not only a menu of “Calabrese style cuisine with a modern twist,” but also a full aperitivo experience that includes the chance to sit back, socialize, listen to music, and eat and drink in a fun atmosphere.
The cocktail menu includes classic aperitivo such as a Venetian Spritz, a Harry’s Bar Bellini, and a Negroni, among others, though SS106 also has an extended cocktail selection that includes new creations and riffs on familiar tipples. The bar also serves grappa, wine, and beer.

On the food side, SS106 offers customers their choice of starters, panini, salads, larger share plates, pasta dishes, and heartier mains. We’re talking meatballs, panzanella (bread salad), gnocchi, eggplant panino, and veal in cream sauce with seasonal veg.
The Spadaforas hope to bring a little taste of Calabria to Calgary through their relaxed, approachable, and vibrant new aperitivo spot.
