Calgary Flames fans will see a familiar face on television broadcasts this season, despite Ryan Leslie’s time with Sportsnet having come to an end.
Leslie’s departure was announced in late August, as the Toronto Maple Leafs hired him as their new TV host. As a result, there was a spot to be filled in Calgary, and Sportsnet has found its guy.

Sportsnet revealed Wednesday morning that Brendan Parker will serve as their host going forward. It’s a name and face that those in Calgary are very familiar with, as he has served as the Flames’ TV host since 2018.
To no one’s surprise, Sportsnet also revealed that play-by-play voice Jon Abbott will be returning to the booth to work alongside colour commentator Kelly Hrudey. Abbott was the new guy a season ago, as he was hired to replace longtime Flames play-by-play commentator Rick Ball, who had moved on to the Chicago Blackhawks.
There’s no doubt that Leslie’s absence will be noticeable, as he became a popular host during his time in Calgary. That said, the fact that they went with a familiar face in Parker as his replacement should make the transition easier for those planning on tuning in often this season.
