Up to 25 cm of snow will slam parts of Alberta before cold air settles in

Parts of Alberta are forecast to get a hefty dump of snow soon, right before cold air sweeps across the province.

Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) issued snowfall warnings for a wide swath of northern Alberta. Heavy snowfall, totalling 15 to 25 cm, is expected tonight and tomorrow.

ECCC says snow will begin in northwestern Alberta tonight and spread into Saskatchewan by Thursday morning. The heaviest snow will fall during the day on Thursday.

Snow will taper off Thursday evening, and visibility may be suddenly reduced at times due to heavy snow. Accumulating snow may make it difficult to navigate surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways, and parking lots.

“Prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions. If visibility is reduced while driving, slow down, watch for tail lights ahead and be prepared to stop,” ECCC stated.

Snowfall warnings are issued when significant snowfall is expected.

The arrival of snow is just ahead of a blast of cold air invading the province, with Edmonton and Calgary set to endure daytime highs in the -14°C to -19°C over the weekend.
