Shai Gilgeous-Alexander's Canadian hometown celebrating him with a massive party

Canadian NBA superstar Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is getting a king’s welcome in the next few weeks.
Gilgeous-Alexander, who had one of the most historic seasons in NBA history capped off by a championship victory with the Oklahoma City Thunder, is hosting a celebration in his hometown later this summer.
On Aug. 7, Gilgeous-Alexander is heading to Hamilton, Ont., for a free celebration at the home of the CFL’s Tiger-Cats. Prior to the Tiger-Cats’ game against the BC Lions, the Thunder star will be honoured in a free, public ceremony at Hamilton Stadium (formerly known as Tim Hortons Field).
The man often referred to simply as āSGAā led the league with 32.7 points per game, and also averaged 6.4 assists, 5.0 rebounds, 1.7 steals, and 1.0 blocks.
Outside of his play in the NBA, Gilgeous-Alexander has been one of the driving forces behind theĀ Canadian menās national basketball team, helping to lead them to a bronze medal in the 2023 FIBA World Cup and their first Olympic experience since 2000 in France last year.
āShai has made history as the first Canadian to win NBA Finals MVP, the first to lead the league in scoring, and only the second Canadian to earn regular season MVP. Heās also one of just four players in NBA history to win all four major titles in a single season,” Hamilton mayor Andrea Horwath said in a release.
Tickets for the event are now available. The event takes place at 3:30 p.m. ET prior to the kickoff of the CFL game, with Gilgeous-Alexander also getting honoured at halftime of the game. Separate tickets are required for each event.
āHamilton is the city where I grew up, and it shaped the most pivotal years of my life. It laid the foundation not only for who I am as a basketball player, but for the man I’ve become. I wouldn’t be who I am today without this city, and I’m deeply grateful for the continued love and support,” said Gilgeous-Alexander.
