Second weekend of August expected to be a rainy one for Calgary

It might be the very heart of summer, but that’s not going to stop Mother Nature from bringing a few rainy days to Calgary this weekend.

Both Environment Canada and The Weather Network forecasts are showing some rainy weather for YYC starting on Friday night and continuing on relentlessly into next week.

While this may be bad news for anyone planning a camping trip this weekend, the silver lining is that any rainfall throughout the province will help to deter this summer’s wildfires.

All told, around 30 mm of rain will fall between Friday and Sunday, according to The Weather Network, with the wet weather kicking off on Friday.

The 40% chance of precipitation will be accompanied by a risk of thunderstorms on August 8 (because of course), while Saturday and Sunday will be straight-up rainfall and highs hovering around the high teens.

Monday and Tuesday are expected to follow suit with chances of showers, though won’t bring down nearly as much rainfall, with a combined total of just 3 to 5 mm in the forecast.

It’s not all doom and gloom on the horizon, though, as Thursday is expected to bring nothing but sunshine and a high of 28Ā°C that feels a little closer to 30Ā°C ā€” so if there was ever a day to hit the park, go for a hike, or work on that tan, it’s tomorrow!
