Surprise, surprise, plant-based crowd — Subway has hopped aboard the Beyond Meat train.

Starting in September, for a limited time only, restaurants will test the Beyond Meatball Marinara sub in 685 participating restaurants in Canada and the US.

The new sandwich takes its inspiration from the brand’s classic sandwich, but adds a plant-based twist. Served with marinara sauce, sprinkled with grated parmesan cheese and toasted, the Beyond Meatballs used on the sammies have been created just for Subway.

The sub offers the same flavour as Subway’s traditional meatball sub and is packed with 42 grams of protein per six-inch sub.

Ethan Brown, Beyond Meat Founder and CEO said in a release that they are excited to partner with Subway, and they are grateful that all members of the company have trusted them to provide a new plant-based protein option.

“We look forward to a long-term partnership with Subway as we together serve and delight existing and new fans of this iconic chain,” Brown said.
