Roy's Korean Kitchen to close one of its Calgary locations

One of Calgary’s most well-loved spots for Korean cuisine is set to close its doors this week.
In an Instagram post, Chef Roy Oh confirmed “with mixed emotions” that Roy’s Korean Kitchen’s Mission outpost would be closing on November 16, after three years of operation.
The restaurant space at 2024 4th Street SW has been sold to a new concept.
Explaining the decision to wind down service at the Mission location, Oh said he needed time to recharge.

“It’s time to slow it down. My passion, drive, and energy have been running on fumes for quite some time now, so it’s time to take a step back, recharge, and make a plan for the next chapter in my career, which, I assure you, is far from over,” the Instagram post reads.
Oh, who opened the renowned 17th Avenue spot Anju in 2008, has been a mainstay in Calgary’s culinary scene for years, fueled by a vision to introduce Korean food to the general public using modern techniques and flavours.
“To a certain extent, I feel like I’ve made this vision reality. I’m not conceited to think that the growth of the Korean culinary scene was because of me, but I do believe, especially in Calgary, I was a gateway for diners to try Korean food for the first time. I feel so proud when a guest has their first bite of kimchi in my restaurant,” Oh continued.
While Roy’s Korean Kitchen in Mission will be closing its doors, Oh will still be serving dishes such as the fried Brussels sprouts and grilled shortribs from its food hall outpost at The District and The Lounge.
