There will be tons of opportunities around the country to commemorate Remembrance Day holiday, and Calgary will be hosting a few of its very own.
This year marks the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I, giving Canadians just one more reason to get together in remembrance of our history.

We’ve put together a list of events where you can honour the more than 115,000 Canadian soldiers who gave their lives during the World War I and II.
Jubilee Auditorium – Service
Wreaths will be laid by Political, Veterans, Military, Civic and community organizations. Depending on the weather, there will be a march outside the building after the auditorium ceremonies. Seating is assigned and a free parking lot is available for those attending the service.

The Hangar Flight Museum – Ceremony
The annual ceremony will be held outdoors if weather permitting, and it’s recommended to arrive early and dress warmly. Non-perishable food donations to the Veterans Food Bank will be accepted and the museum will keep its doors open after the ceremony with admission by donation until 4 pm.

Battalion Park – Ceremony
Hosted by Kings Own Calgary Regiment, the 7th annual ceremony will take place at the Battalion Park. The event includes speeches and public address, wreath laying, and a short ceremony alongside personnel personal.

The Military Museums – Ceremony
Join the Military Museum for a special ceremony celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Armistice at the end of the First World War. The museum will be open after the ceremony and admissions are by donation. It’s recommended to arrive early, and non-perishable food donations are accepted.

Canadian Pacific – Ceremony
The annual ceremony will take place at the Ogden Memorial and it’s open to the public. Canadian Pacific will pay tribute to more than 33,000 employees who served in the last century’s wars. Every CP locomotive will sound its whistle at 11:01 am to start a moment of silence.

Burnsland Cemetery – Tour
Burnsland Cemetery is offering a special tour this Remembrance Day. The tour will explore the history and stories behind some of the non-Canadian units whose members are buried in the Burnsland Field of Honour.

Where: Meeting point — Galloway House, the building near the Union Cemetery gate at Spiller Road SE and Cemetery Road SE

Fort Calgary – Service
This moving ceremony facilitated by the RCMP Veterans’ Association of Calgary will feature bagpipes, readings, and choral singers. Although entrance is free, it’s required to register for a ticket. After the ceremony, everybody is welcomed to take a tour at the annual Artisan’s Fair.
