Get your catnip ready – Calgary’s first cat cafe is set to open in late spring.

It’s called the Regal Cat Café, and this 2,100 square-foot spot is located in the heart of Kensington at 303-10th Street. The cafe is currently in the construction stages, and we can’t wait to see the end result.

This Regal Cat will house ten cats, all of which are available for adoption from the MEOW Foundation, a specialized cat-focused charity and humane society with a no-kill mandate.

The whole idea is to connect people with potential future fur babies – and enjoying a delicious coffee and treat at the same time doesn’t hurt!

Owner Tia Wieler told Daily Hive over the phone that patrons will be welcome to come and play with the cats in their “kitty kingdom”, a playroom with a glass wall next to the main cafe.

The full-service cafe will have classic lattes, coffees, and baked goods. Wieler says she and her husband (who is also an owner) are aiming to get all cafe items from local Calgary purveyors, including some cat-themed treats that have yet to be decided.

Once this spot opens, reservations to play with the cats can be made online, and there will also be drop-in spots for those just passing by. The capacity of Regal Cat is 16 people, who can stay for a maximum time of 45 minutes.

Before heading to the cafe, people should be sure to check out the Kitty Visitation Rules. Unfortunately, guests cannot bring their furry friends from home – even though it sounds fun it may be a bit hectic for the cats in the cafe.

For those of us who love cats, but can’t own one themselves, this is a fabulous way to get the cuddles you crave without the responsibility of taking care of a feline friend full-time.

In the near future guests can meet the cats through an online cat-a-logue before their visit to the cafe.

It’s safe to safe Calgary is purrrty excited to this spot to open its doors – we know we can’t wait to pair our coffee with cuddles!

The Regal Cat Café will be open daily from 9 am to 9 pm.
