Rasmus Andersson’s time with the Calgary Flames has officially come to an end.
After months of heavy speculation, the 29-year-old was dealt to the Vegas Golden Knights on Sunday. In return, the Flames received defenceman Zach Whitecloud, a 2027 first-round pick, a 2028 conditional second-round pick, and blueline prospect Abram Weibe.
The trade is an emotional one for many, as Andersson has spent his entire 584-game career in a Flames sweater. The Swedish blueliner himself seemed to be quite emotional following the trade, and, after a few hours, sent a message out on X thanking many, including the fan base.
“Calgary, thank you for everything you’ve done for me, ever since being drafted in 2015, I’ve loved this organization,” he wrote. “I’ve truly loved every second of playing for this amazing team and city, to all the fans, thank you for always supporting me and keeping me honest at the same time.
“To my teammates, coaches, training staff and everyone at the front office, THANK YOU! Wishing the Flames nothing but the best in the future, and I’ll always be a fan.”

Meanwhile, Andersson’s wife, Tessa, was also quick to share a quick thank-you note to Flames fans.
“Thank you for everything, Calgary,” she wrote. “This city will always have a very special place [in] our hearts.”

Though everybody wishes the team had more success during Andersson’s tenure, it was a successful one nonetheless. The 2015 second-round pick sits sixth all-time amongst Flames defencemen with 204 assists, as well as 261 points. His 57 goals, meanwhile, rank seventh.
Andersson didn’t agree to an extension with the Golden Knights following yesterday’s trade, meaning that as of now, he is still set to become a UFA in the summer. Through 48 games this season, he’s scored 10 goals and 30 points.
