Report: Raptors looking to trade for top-10 pick and draft a Canadian
The Toronto Raptors don’t currently own a pick in Thursday’s NBA Draft, but that doesn’t mean they won’t make a splash.
A report from the New York Times’ Marc Stein indicates that the Raptors are looking to trade for a high draft pick in the hopes of landing Canadian point guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.

It sounds like the team is prepared to go all-out, with Stein adding that “no one” is off-limits if they can get a top-10 pick.

Gilgeous-Alexander grew up in Toronto and attended high school in Hamilton before moving south to Tennessee to pursue a career in basketball. The Canadian scored 14.3 points per game in his freshman season with the University of Kentucky last year, adding 4.1 rebounds and 5.1 assists per game, en route to an appearance in the Sweet 16 at the NCAA tournament.
The Raptors have been without a Canadian on their team since they traded Cory Joseph to Indiana last offseason. Since entering the league in 1995, the Raptors have never drafted a Canadian.
