It could feel as cold as -50°C in Quebec City tonight

Environment Canada has released an Extreme Cold Warning for several areas in Quebec where temperatures could reach dangerously cold numbers.

According to the alert, wind chill values could reach between -40°C and -50°C beginning tonight and the “cold snap could persist into Monday over several areas.”

The weather website also urges Quebecers to cover up as “frostbite can develop within minutes on exposed skin, especially with wind chill.”

The Extreme Cold Warning was issued Friday morning and is in effect for the following areas:

  • Bellechasse area
  • Côte-de-Beaupré – L’Île d’Orléans area
  • Lévis area
  • Lotbinière area
  • Portneuf area
  • Québec area
  • Saint-Lambert area
  • Valcartier – Stoneham area

Extreme cold warnings are issued when very cold temperatures or wind chill creates an elevated risk to health such as frostbite and hypothermia.
