19-year-old taken into custody following fatal pedestrian hit and run

A 38-year-old man is dead and a 19 year old is in custody following a fatal pedestrian collision on Monday night.

A release from the Calgary Police Service states that the man was struck at the intersection of 32nd Avenue NE and 26th Street NE by a 2006 Acura TL travelling at a high rate of speed at around 9:30 pm.

The vehicle had been travelling alongside a Toyota Tacoma, which was also allegedly travelling at a high rate of speed, and police say that the intersection’s lights had been showing red against the two vehicles. After the man was struck, both vehicles failed to stop at the scene.

Around midnight, a 19-year-old man arrived at an RCMP detachment in Chestermere and was taken into custody.

Police say that he is assisting with their enquiries.
