Alberta is Calling? Recent Ontario transplant finds angry note on car

Apr 24 2025, 4:28 pm

A recent transplant from Ontario to Calgary was met with a harsh message in a grocery store parking lot.

In a photo shared to Reddit, the user explained that they had just moved from Ontario and hadn’t yet changed their licence plates. While shopping at Walmart, they returned to their vehicle to find a note tucked under the windshield wipers.

“My stomach dropped thinking someone hit my car and left their contact information,” they wrote.

Instead, the note read: “Dam Easterners coming to Alberta to be safe. Gutless cowards.”

It’s not entirely clear what the author of the message meant by “safe in Alberta.” Perhaps they were briefly possessed by the ghost of Ralph Klein, given the tone toward eastern Canadians.

From Ontario first grocery experience someone left a note on my car.

Calgary commenters were quick to call out the note-leaver, many pointing out the irony of an anonymous note accusing someone else of being cowardly.

One commenter said, “Wait until he finds out that Toronto has ‘Alberta is Calling‘ posters everywhere in the city.”

“The real gutless coward is the asshat that left the note. This moron doesn’t speak for the rest of us, so crumple it up and don’t give it any more thought,” wrote another.

Another commenter replied, “I don’t even know what that means. Why are you a gutless coward because you moved from Ontario? Why are you safer here? No idea, but I’m sorry that happened to you.”
