In a Friday press conference, Premier Jason Kenney said that Alberta has seen 239 new known cases of coronavirus in the past 24 hours.

This brings the province’s known total to 2,397.

He also noted that there were no new deaths since the two reported at yesterday’s update, and that the large number of new cases was due to the recent increase in testing, as Alberta began allowing anyone with symptoms to be tested as of earlier this week.

A total of 3,831 tests were completed in Alberta over the past 24 hours.

Kenney stated that Alberta wants to get to a point where they can do 20,000 coronavirus tests per day.

To date, Alberta has tested 89,144 people for the virus, which is an average of 1,974 per day.

There are currently 60 people in hospital as a result of contracting coronavirus, and 13 are in intensive care.
