Here are all the events to check out at New Central Library's grand opening
It’s. Finally. Happening!
The big, beautiful hunk of building sitting right in the middle of downtown will be opening its doors to the public at long last, kicking off with a huge grand opening celebration at the start of November.

The celebration will be a four-day long affair, starting on Thursday, November 1 and running all the way into Sunday, November 4 according to a release from Calgary Public Library.
“The new Central Library belongs to all Calgarians—an unparalleled place with opportunity for everyone,” said Mayor Naheed Nenshi in the release.
“To throw open the doors and make it so easy to be a part of the grand opening is truly special.”
Thursday will feature the official grand opening, which will include live music, free tours, special guests, and open doors as of 10 am sharp. The event will run until 8 pm, meaning that there will be plenty of time to witness the historical opening.
From 7 to 9 pm world-famous astronaut Christ Hadfield will be on scene to give what will surely be a memorable speech, and while tickets are free, if you would like to attend the event you’ll have to register online before seats run out.
“We’re thrilled to welcome Col. Chris Hadfield on November 1 to celebrate our opening and inspire our members,” said Bill Ptacek, CEO of Calgary Public Library, in the release.
“The new Central Library will be a cultural hub for learning and innovation and we couldn’t think of a better person to demonstrate what’s possible when we come together and dream big!”
Friday night will see a Lit Gala that will include different experiences to check out on all levels of the building, including performers, speakers, and delicious treats. Tickets are available online for $750.
Saturday and Sunday will be the Opening Family Fun Weekend, a family-friendly event running all day that will include free programming and tours of the brand new library. Crafts stations, live music, and other entertainment will be set up all over the building for the enjoyment of little ones and adults alike.
