If a zombie horde came to Calgary, where would you go to bunker down?

If you’re drawing a few blanks, you might want to watch a few episodes of Netflix’s new zombie apocalypse show Black Summer for some inspiration.

While not technically set in Calgary, much of the filming for the show’s eight-episodes-long first season was done right here in YYC.

Calgarians with a keen eye should be able to recognize landmarks like the Calgary Tower, McMahon Stadium, Queen Elizabeth High School, and smaller Albertan communities of Beiseker and Irricana in the show.

Calgary sights aren’t the only thing to see in the show, either, as Black Summer features Calgary-born actor Kelsey Flower (My Imaginary Ex Girlfriendas Lance, one of the survivors.

Flower is joined by Jaime King, Justin Chu Cary, Christine Lee, and others to fill out the show’s full cast… just don’t expect all of them to stick around for very long — this is a zombie show, after all.

Episodes range from 20 to 45 minutes and are now available to watch on Netflix Canada.
