The mayor noted his great sadness over the shooting but said it was not because he was a fellow Muslim brother, but rather because we are all fellow citizens.
“My heart doesn’t break because I am Muslim. My heart breaks because I am human.”
Mayor Nenshi reflected on how we are not immune to hatred in this community but that this is an important time for all Canadians to stand up to it together, from coast to coast to coast, with our political leaders of all stripes, and with people of all faiths and backgrounds.
