The Calgary Police Service is investigating a fatal assault that took the life of one man in Calgary’s Penbrooke Meadows neighbourhood on Sunday.

A release from CPS states that officers had responded to reports of a man in medical distress at around 10 pm last night.

When they arrived at the 200 block of 52nd Street SE they report finding a man suffering from fatal injuries, who would ultimately be pronounced dead at the scene.

It is believed that the fatal assault had taken place in the parking lot of a 7-Eleven on the 5300 block of 8th Avenue earlier that night.

CCTV footage of the location is being reviewed by investigators to determine a suspect, though police noted that it is too early in the investigation to determine a motive.

An autopsy of the body is being conducted today.
