Alberta thrill-seekers will soon have the opportunity to get sky high in a world-first attraction launching in Canada this spring at the Malahat SkyWalk.

The Vancouver Island destination is opening the first enclosed glass cube in the world to be attached to the top of a spiral tower on the Victoria Day long weekend in May.

At a time when more Canadians are choosing to travel within the country, a trip to the scenic Malahat Skywalk just may be the perfect getaway for Albertans.

“We are excited to welcome Albertans to Malahat SkyWalk this summer for the ultimate West Coast experience that brings together nature and adventure like never before,” said Nathan Bird, general manager of Malahat Skywalk, to Daily Hive. “We have created a world first, and there is nowhere else in Canada that you will be able to experience something as unique as this.”

“The Overhang glass cube will test your limits in the most unforgettable way. We challenge everyone to go beyond the edge and step into the sky with us for a daring and thrilling adventure you’ll definitely want to experience this summer.”

Malahat SkyWalk is located about a 30-minute drive from Victoria, B.C., which itself beat out exotic locales to be named the world’s best small city by Condé Nast Traveller.

The fully accessible attraction features a 32-metre-tall (105-foot) outdoor spiral observation tower, perched on the edge of the Cowichan Valley — about 250 metres (820 feet) above the inlet below.

The Overhang, which was designed by B.C. structural engineering firm Aspect, measures 2.13 metres all around and will extend beyond the summit edge of the 10-storey Spiral Tower.

The fully-accessible attraction is custom-built with a steel support frame and five panels of structural glass. The sides and ceiling will be 36 mm (1.42 inches) thick, with a base of 60 mm (2.36 inches).

Each panel of The Overhang is also made up of multiple layers of glass that have been bound together for strength and safety.

“Designed with thrill-seekers in mind, The Overhang promises to deliver an unmistakable rush from the very first step,” added the tourist destination in a statement.

“The transparent glass cube, only inches thick, will create the illusion of defying gravity.”

The glass cube experience joins The Sizzler spiral slide and The SkyWeb adventure net as family-friendly attractions found at the Vancouver Island destination.

Visitors to the Malahat SkyWalk can also enjoy the ultimate selfie spot at one of the top viewpoints in Canada.

Check out the lush coastal rainforest, shimmering Pacific waters, and majestic mountain ranges stretching as far as the eye can see.

This summer, Malahat SkyWalk brings the heat with a full range of activities, live performances, events, live music, local food favourites, and more that the whole family can enjoy. All of this and more is why Malahat SkyWalk is the ultimate summer experience and destination
