The Light It Up Calgary run is coming back to YYC this April

Warmer weather is on its way, and with it comes all sorts of fun outdoor activities to do here in YYC.

One of the earliest is April’s Light It Up Calgary run, allowing Calgarians a chance to rediscover the joys of running outside (without completely freezing) with a 3 km, 5 km, and 10 km route.

Registration is now open, and seeing the race has a max registration cap of 1,000 participants, you may not want to wait until it’s too late.

Registering will run you $40 — no matter which route you choose — with funds going towards supporting cancer survivors through Wellspring Calgary.

“Wellspring Calgary is a warm and welcoming community that provides a comprehensive range of support, resources and programs so anyone living with cancer and the people who care about them can improve the quality of their lives,” the centre’s mission statement reads.

Light It Up Calgary is unique compared to some of the other footraces in the city, as it begins right when the lights go out — meaning you’ll need to bring along a headlamp, flashlight, or some other form of light to make your way through Calgary’s streets.

The race begins at 8 pm on Saturday, April 6, though you’ll need to pick up your race kit either earlier that day (between 4 and 7 pm) or on Friday from noon to 7 pm at the Eau Claire Market Running Room.

Good luck!
