Albertans have until Saturday to enter Lake O'Hara's bus reservations draw

Lake O’Hara is undoubtedly one of Alberta’s most beautiful places to visit.

With its stunning views, crystal clear waters, and lush forests, it’s no wonder that so many Albertans and visitors alike flock to this part of the Rocky Mountains.

The amount of attention could also be its biggest downfall for would-be travellers.

Parks Canada announced at the end of 2019 that the shuttle bus that takes people the 11 km up to the Lake O’Hara trailhead will be reserved on a new random draw system to “improve the reservation experience for visitors and help to ensure all online users have a chance at securing a reservation for a seat on the Lake O’Hara bus.”

Those hoping to secure a spot will need to pay a non-refundable $10 fee to even submit an application, with the chance of not even being picked in the random draw.

If you are picked, you’ll have two weeks to confirm your reservation before they draw another applicant.

The deadline for entering the draw is this Saturday, February 29.

A release from Parks Canada states that the revenue generated from the $10 application free will be reinvested in Lake O’Hara and Yoho National Park.

Hiking up the 11 km trailhead (with about 500 metres elevation) is allowed, according to Parks Canada’s website, but keep in mind that buses will not stop for hikers and a ride out is not guaranteed.

Bus and campsite reservations can be made online at the Parks Canada website.
