Many Calgarians mourned after the closure of the popular Sensei Bar earlier this year. While we had to wait a few months to see what would happen with the space, we now have news of an exciting new pop-up on the way.

From the team behind Sensei Bar and its sister restaurant Olea, Oori Nori, a limited-time pop-up specializing in Japanese hand rolls, is setting up in the former home of Sensei Bar from June 6.

Inspired by Tokyo’s late-night food culture, Oori Nori will focus on fresh sushi and curated cocktails, opening on Thursday through Saturday evenings throughout the summer.

On the menu, expect to see premium, freshly made hand rolls using top-quality ingredients, small share plates, and a sake-forward drink list.

“The 30-seat space is intentionally intimate, with the food and drink at the centre of the experience. Every element – from the first bite to the last pour – is designed to spark conversation, experiment with flavour, and leave guests wondering what’s next,” the Oori Nori team said.

Oori Nori will be the first in a series of rotating pop-ups in the old Sensei Bar space, acting as a testing ground where guests will be able to share their experiences to determine which future concept could stick around for good.

The pop-up will be running until September 13, so be sure to take advantage.
