Justin Trudeau to march in Toronto Pride parade

Justin Trudeau is planning on marching in Toronto’s gay Pride parade, and will be the first sitting Prime Minister to do so, according to event organizers.

Other notable political figures marching in the city’s parade include Ontario premier Kathleen Wynne and her partner Jane Rounthewaite, as well as Toronto mayor John Tory.

Toronto is doing their first-ever “Pride Month”, which kicks off June 1 and finishes with the parade on July 3. This years’ theme is “You Can Sit With Us,” a play on the famous line from the movie Mean Girls. The sentiment is about belonging and inclusion, say event organizers.

This isn’t the first time Trudeau has marched in a pride parade – before he was elected prime minister, he marched in Vancouver’s 2015 parade and ended up getting a bit of an arm full after a fan jumped on him.
