Johnny Depp, who is currently in Vancouver to film Richard Says Goodbye, walked into the hospital wards in character as Sparrow, the character he famously plays in Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean cinematic series.

According to the hospital, the 54-year-old actor spent 5.5 hours meeting one-on-one with every patient – everyone from newborns to teens. He arrived at the hospital at 3:30 pm under a veil of secrecy and was met at the entrance by three special guides who were previously patients at the hospital.

“Meeting Captain Jack was a dream come true for my daughter,” said Sarah Kertcher, mother of 7-year-old ‘First Mate’ Madison. “He never broke character once and was so generous with his time. He was truly here for the kids and it brought tears to my eyes to see how special he made each one feel.”

This is not the first time he took his character to a hospital for a good cause. In 2015 while filming Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales in Australia, he spent a break between filming to visit sick kids at Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital in Brisbane.

Depp is expected to remain in Vancouver until around August 25, when filming is scheduled to end. The film also stars Zoey Deutch and is slated for a 2018 release.
