While playing on a rebuilding team can be difficult for some players, it doesn’t sound as though it’s an issue whatsoever for Joel Farabee.
In fact, according to one NHL insider, the Calgary Flames forward is quite happy with where he is and has no interest in going anywhere.
The 26-year-old has been with the Flames since being acquired late in the 2024-25 season. While his tenure in Calgary didn’t get off to the best start, he’s quickly become one of the team’s most consistent and well-rounded forwards.
Farabee, who was selected 14th overall in the 2018 NHL Draft, has always had plenty of offensive ability. He reached the 20-goal mark in just his second NHL season with the Philadelphia Flyers, but his production stalled in the years that followed.
That seems to be changing in Calgary.
The Flames have turned things around recently, posting a 7-3-0 record over their last 10 games, and Farabee has been a major reason why. He’s recorded five goals and 13 points during that stretch, giving him 15 points in 15 games this season.
Suddenly, a player who looked like a potential trade candidate is starting to look like someone the Flames should seriously consider keeping around for the long haul.
Of course, Calgary doesn’t have to make a decision on Farabee anytime soon. He’s under contract through the 2027-28 season, carrying an annual cap hit of $5 million. Still, there’s already reason to believe he’d be more than happy to stick around beyond that.
“He really likes it in Calgary and wants to be there,” Frank Seravalli said to Pat Steinberg on Flames Now. “Whenever his name has popped up, different people around his world or orbit have checked in to be like, ‘Hey, what’s going on here? We want to make sure that he’s safe in Calgary because he really likes it.'”
That’s certainly encouraging news for the Flames, who have watched several high-profile players express a desire to move on in recent years.
Calgary is still a long way from being a legitimate Stanley Cup contender, but keeping players who genuinely want to be part of the process is an important step. Farabee appears to be one of them, and his recent play is giving the organization even more reason to envision him as part of its future.
