A former member of the Okotoks Oilers’ front office has been charged with multiple sex offences involving minors following a lengthy RCMP investigation.
Tyler King, 39, was arrested on Friday, Oct. 30, at the Lansdowne border crossing near Kingston, Ont., Alberta RCMP confirmed during a virtual news conference on Monday.
King faces three counts of luring a person under 18 years old, as well as charges of sexual exploitation of a young person and making child pornography.

According to RCMP, the investigation began in June 2024 after an employee of the Okotoks Oilers Hockey Association reported that a former employee was allegedly soliciting and compensating players for intimate images and sexual videos.
Police said their investigation identified three victims, all of whom were Junior A hockey players from Alberta and Saskatchewan. The alleged victims were under the age of 18 at the time of the offences.

King previously worked as Okotoks’ assistant general manager and play-by-play broadcaster for three seasons before departing the organization in June 2024.
In a statement announcing his departure, the Oilers thanked King for his “tireless efforts during his three seasons in our organization.”
Following this news, however, the Oilers put out a statement making it clear that they were unaware of this alleged behaviour when thanking King for his tenure.
“The Okotoks Oilers were not aware of these allegations while this individual was with our organization,” part of the statement read.
”After his departure, we received information that, while unverified at the time, raised enough concern that we felt it needed a closer look. We reviewed it carefully and passed it to the RCMP.”

Meanwhile the BCHL, which King worked in for a very brief stint, also released a statement on the matter.
”Although [King] only spent a brief few months in the BCHL, we have fully supported the RCMP’s investigation of this matter,” the league wrote.

King has also held positions with hockey organizations in Fort McMurray, Brooks, and Nanaimo, B.C., and was believed to be working at a university in the United States at the time of his arrest.
RCMP confirmed that King was remanded into custody and will be transported to Alberta.
Police also said they believe there could be additional victims and are encouraging anyone who believes they may have been affected, or who has information about the investigation, to contact their local police service.
The investigation remains ongoing.
King is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
