UPDATE: Jan. 2017: JJ Ramen Diner closed up shop at the end of December.
Ramen is getting to be one of the hottest dishes in Calgary right now, and recently another new spot has opened up to satisfy cravings for slurping noodles in savoury broth.
The former Carino Japanese Bistro has become JJ Ramen Diner, focusing their menu on the namesake dish.
Carino, incidentally, has moved and rebranded, offering Japanese-Italian fare as Carino Riserva on 4th Street SW.

The switch to JJ Ramen happened in October, and already the ramen shop has some fans for the soup proprietor Toshihiro Karino is creating.
With ramen renditions like Spicy Umami Miso, Ebi Shio Wonton Ramen, Spicy Umami Tsukemen, Tonkotsu Gyokai “Umami” Shoyu Ramen, and more, JJ Ramen offers styles like tsukemen (dipping style) and broth options like Shio (“salt”) and Shoyu (“soy sauce”). Side dishes include the trendy raw fish dish, poke.
