Inside the Alberta Rocky Mountains' newest steakhouse with incredible views

A brand-new steakhouse has just opened in one of Alberta’s most beautiful mountain towns, and it’s been brought to life by the team behind some of Calgary’s best restaurants.

If you’re visiting Canmore’s Spring Creek neighbourhood, Hunter, Concorde Entertainment Group’s first Rocky Mountain steakhouse, officially opened in June.

Built on the foundations of every good steakhouse, with the addition of stunning views, we were eager to go and check it out.

Inside Hunter

While traditional steakhouses are usually dark and atmospheric, Hunter has incorporated those traditional steakhouse qualities as well as using the natural beauty around it.

Designed with iconic locations like Aspen in mind, the restaurant aims to incorporate mountain life and midcentury design, with warm woods, lived-in texture and low amber lighting.

The large windows have timber slat screens which help to temper the sunlight, without completely blocking the scenery.

With a mix of large tables and cozy nooks to enjoy your meal, the restaurant is relaxed and comfortable, without those stuffy vibes that can often come with a steakhouse.

What’s on the menu?

The restaurant is very much built around the dishes we’ve come to know and love from steakhouses. Steak is a given, but there’s also classic dishes such as shrimp cocktail and wedge salad, as well as classic sides like baked potatoes or French fries.

To start, we tried Hunter’s Seafood Platter, loaded with fresh oysters, chilled shrimp, lobster salad, snow crab and scallop crudo, alongside its garlicky Cheese Bread, Steak Tartare, and Caesar Salad.

Of course, the steak is the main event here, with each cut cooked to perfection over applewood and birch in Hunter’s Josper grill. Alongside the steak, we tried the Baked Potato, Green Beans, and Wild Mushrooms, all of which were delicious.

If you have saved room for dessert, and we recommend that you do, the Basque Cheesecake and the Key Lime Pie are well worth a try.

Hunter will likely be a favourite for Canmore locals and tourists alike. But if you aren’t Rockies bound anytime soon, Concorde is set to open a Hunter location in Calgary this fall, so watch this space.
