Inside Calgary's newest cafe offering donuts and everything matcha

In our humble opinion, every day is a good day if you get to have a matcha break, and now Calgary has just got a brand-new cafe and dessert shop dedicated to the green stuff.
From the team behind the ever-popular Greedy Donut, Be’o has just opened its doors in Calgary’s Aspen neighbourhood.
While Calgary has plenty of amazing cafes, we just had to check out the matra-centric spot and set out to see what Be’o is all about.

The space is open and spacious, with huge windows that let the light flood in. While the decor is fairly clean and minimal, there are pops of colour, namely matcha green, of course, but also a neon orange, both in the slogan painted along one of its walls, and on the trays used to carry drinks and treats to the tables.
What we tried
Be’o has two different matcha drinks to try: it’s regular ceremonial matcha and its matcha cream (think a classic matcha but with a layer of fluffy cold foam). Depending on your preference, both are solid choices.
As you’d expect for a matcha cafe, the ratio of matcha to milk is exactly what you’d want. It has that distinctive green hue, and you can really taste the tea, which has been lightly sweetened.

Be’o isn’t just about the drinks, though, as the spot also offers a range of matcha-based desserts, including choux pastry, cheesecake, cookies and tiramisu. Despite loving tiramisu, we’d never tried a matcha variety, so we opted to give that a go. While undeniably tasty, we may prefer the traditional a little more.
Of course, being a sister to Greedy Donut, there were plenty of delicious donuts to try out. There was a matcha cream-filled one, naturally, but if you’ve already had your matcha fill, there were tons of flavours from Oreo to Vanilla.

We couldn’t recommend the donuts enough. They’re incredibly light, fluffy, and absolutely filled to the brim.
As the matcha trend is showing no signs of slowing down, we’re excited to find a dedicated spot in the city, and we can see Be’o being a popular haunt for locals.
Be’o is open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. seven days a week.
