Federal Health Minister Patty Hajdu responded to a photo of her without a mask at Toronto Pearson Airport saying she only takes it off to eat or drink.

The photo, posted on Twitter on Sunday, shows a maskless Hajdu seated in the airport lounge, according to the photographer who is a staffer to Alberta’s Minister of Advanced Education, Demetrios Nicolaides.

“Following public health rules is important to me. I wear my mask at all times at Toronto Pearson, and only take it off to eat or drink, as allowed,” Hajdu tweeted in response to the photo.

In the photo, a lone Hajdu can be seen seated in an airport lounge, gesturing to someone out of frame. There is no visible food or drink in the photo, but what appears to be an open takeout bag is on the table next to her, away from the camera.

In July, then-Conservative Party Leader Andrew Scheer and Manitoba Premier Brian Pallister were spotted without face masks at a gate within the same airport.
