Despite guidance to maintain distance from one another, to stem the spread of COVID-19, gamers have been gathering for any and all reasons — digitally, that is.

We’re now a week into a lovably zen-like chore simulator from Nintendo called Animal Crossing: New Horizons. The explorative, shallow farm sim has blown up in a big bad way.

Even if we weren’t in a weirdly isolated time, a large Animal Crossing fanbase exists out there. Luckily for Nintendo, more than just that fanbase is currently stuck at home, seeking meaning, and a boredom cure.

Why not start your own island town, and inherit a never-ending list of tasks?

In an entirely feel-good story, the multiplayer aspect of Animal Crossing: New Horizons has supplied gamers all over the world with a venue to visit one another, host events, and in some cases, life-altering celebrations.

A Wedding?!

Yes, some folks have had larger life events interrupted by lockdowns and quarantines, so this couple’s group of friends put together a surprise Animal Crossing wedding, using the game’s multiplayer feature.

“This made me so happy, I don’t even have the words to describe how much it meant to me,” writes Reddit user, and Animal Crossing bride, Ashmush.

Gamers are a resilient folk, how are you using technology to bridge the gap between you and your loved ones during this unprecedented time?
