Two newly converted grocery stores are set to reopen in Calgary this month.
Last year,Ā Safeway shared that its Northgate and Thorncliffe locations would be closing. However, it was revealed that these stores would be converted to FreshCo locations as part of Safeway’s plans to grow its discount network in Western Canada.
After a brief hiatus for renovations, both stores are set to open to the public on Thursday, Aug. 13, from 8 a.m.
In details outlined on the Alberta Major Projects website, building permits were issued by the City of Calgary for changes to the stores located at 399 36th St. NE and 5601 4th St. NW, with the projects costing $5 million each.
While these are the only developments announced for now, Safeway has said it is evaluating up to eight more Safeway conversions over the next few years.
