The latest ice cream shop joining the ranks in Calgary offers a taste of pure nostalgia.
Tat’s Treats opened in Marda Loop earlier this year, where it serves cereal-infused soft serve and a huge range of mix-ins, quickly becoming a favourite in the neighbourhood.
Tatianna Marr, owner of Tat’s Treats, told Dished that while she previously worked as a dental hygienist, the initial idea for Tat’s Treats stemmed from a craving she had while pregnant with her son.
“I was mixing and making loaded cereal bowls at home, and then it slowly evolved, combining with my craving for ice cream. I realized all cereal tasted really good mixed into ice cream, and I figured I was onto something,” she said.

Marr then took this a step further, ordering a machine that mixes different toppings into ice cream to use at home, testing all sorts of combinations over the span of four months, before deciding to bring Tat’s Treats to the public.
She was able to secure a lease for the small but mighty Marda Loop space, a community that means a lot to Marr.
“I have lived in Marda Loop basically my entire life, and so I’m so excited to be part of the Marda Loop community and to be adding to what an amazing neighbourhood that this is.”

Each of the ice creams starts with a base of milky vanilla soft serve, and then guests can really let their creative juices flow, with a ton of different mix-ins from nostalgic cereals such as Froot Loops and Captain Crunch, to sweet treats like Oreos and Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups.
But for those who suffer from choice paralysis, there are also plenty of house favourites on the menu to try out.
“We have our house favorites… but we’re adding, changing and evolving as time goes on, and as our regulars request. We’re always willing to add new things in,” Marr said.

So far, Marr said the Tat’s Treat has been the reigning champ on the menu, loaded with Rice Krispies, crushed Oreos, and mini marshmallows.
Since opening, there have also been some secret menu items, one of which has been dubbedĀ Over the Rainbow, which includes Lucky Charms, Captain Crunch, and mini marshmallows.
Tat’s Treats is open Wednesday to Sunday, so if you’re looking to try out a new ice cream shop this summer, consider this a sign.
