Calgary Flames fans tuning into men’s hockey at the 2026 Winter Olympics will hear a lot of recognizable names competing.
Though the Flames may only have one representative suiting up in Rasmus Andersson (Martin Pospisil remains out with injury), there are 10 former Flames who will be representing their respective countries at the upcoming Games.
Here’s a look at every former Flame confirmed to be playing at this year’s Olympics…
1. Matthew Tkachuk (USA)
This one comes as no surprise. Matthew Tkachuk, who spent six seasons with the Flames before being traded to the Florida Panthers, was one of six players named to the US roster in the summer.
Tkachuk has yet to play this season due to offseason surgery; he’s expected to return to the Panthers soon, meaning that, barring a setback, he will be playing in the Olympics. The 28-year-old, fresh off back-to-back Stanley Cup championships, had 22 goals and 57 points in 52 games last season.
2. Jacob Markstrom (Sweden)
The 2025-26 season has been an ugly one for Jacob Markstrom, though it was still no surprise whatsoever to see him named to Sweden’s roster. The 35-year-old, who finished second in Vezina Trophy voting in 2021-22, will be competing with Filip Gustavsson and Jesper Wallstedt for playing time.
Given Markstrom’s experience, it wouldn’t be a major surprise to see him given the starting role early in the tournament, though his struggles could pave the way for one of the two Minnesota Wild netminders to get some action.
3. Noah Hanifin (USA)
There were some serious questions as to whether or not Noah Hanifin would crack the US roster, but, as was the case for 4 Nations, he was able to earn a spot. The 28-year-old, who was traded from the Flames to the Vegas Golden Knights during the 2023-24 season, has 16 points through 31 games.
4. Elias Lindholm (Sweden)
Despite some struggles as of late in his career, Elias Lindholm was able to make his way onto Sweden’s roster for 4 Nations. The 31-year-old has bounced back this season with 27 points through 33 games, making his inclusion on Sweden’s Olympic roster no surprise.
5. Dan Vladar (Czechia)
Though the Flames had interest in re-signing Dan Vladar last offseason, the 28-year-old chose to sign with the Philadelphia Flyers in hopes of a bigger role. It’s paid off in spades, as he’s posted an impressive 2.37 GAA along with a .910 SV% through 25 appearances.
Vladar will be competing with Lukas Dostal and Karel Vejmelka for playing time in Czechia’s crease.
6. Adam Ruzicka (Slovakia)
Adam Ruzicka suited up for 114 games in a Flames sweater before being claimed off waivers by the Arizona Coyotes during the 2023-24 season.
The 26-year-old has since spent the past two seasons in the KHL, and currently has 14 goals and 34 points in 38 games with Moscow Spartak.
7. Tobias Rieder (Germany)
Though Tobias Rieder hasn’t played in the NHL since the 2020-21 season, he is expected to be a valuable player for Germany. The 32-year-old racked up 478 games in his NHL career, 55 of which came with the Flames during the 2019-20 campaign.
8. Reto Berra (Switzerland)
You aren’t alone if you didn’t think Reto Berra was still playing professional hockey. The 39-year-old, who played 29 games with the Flames way back during the 2013-14 season, is in his eighth season with the Fribourg-Gotteron HC of Switzerland’s NL, where he has a dazzling 1.78 GAA and .927 SV% through 26 games.
9. Roman Cervenka (Czechia)
Many Flames fans were frustrated to see Adam Klapka left off of Czechia’s Olympic rosterĀ in favour of several players overseas. One of those players is Roman Cervenka, whose 39-career NHL games came with the Flames during the 2012-13 season.
Cervenka, who is now 40 years old, is playing for Pardubice HC in the Czech Extraliga. He’s proving that age is just a number, as he’s racked up 13 goals and 44 points in 31 outings.
10. Marek Hrivik (Slovakia)
If you remember the name Marek Hrivik, you possess quite a bit of Flames knowledge. The 34-year-old, who played just 24 career NHL games, suited up for three with the Flames during the 2017-18 season.
Hrivik has spent the past eight seasons playing overseas. He’s currently playing for Vitkovice HC in the Czech Extraliga, where he’s managed six goals and 20 points through 34 contests.
