Calgary Flames fans tuning into the NHL playoffs with regularity will soon notice a familiar face on their screens.

This past Saturday, Sportsnet sent out a release of all the names who will be working the second round of the Stanley Cup playoffs. One name who appeared on the list was Flames forward Ryan Strome.

“Ron MacLean and David Amber host Hockey Central pre-game, intermission, and post-game alongside experts Kevin Bieksa, Elliotte Friedman, Kelly Hrudey, Jennifer Botterill, and Luke Gazdic. Calgary Flames forward Ryan Strome and New Jersey defenceman Brenden Dillon join the panel for select games.”

It’s unclear as to which games Strome will be a part of going forward, but it should be interesting to hear the unique perspective he’ll bring to the panel. The 32-year-old has seen it all, having already suited up for 916 games over his career.

This is just the latest in what’s been a busy year for Strome. He was acquired by the Flames in a late move on trade deadline day in a move that saw GM Craig Conroy send a seventh-round pick to the Anaheim Ducks. The trade seemingly rejuvenated Strome, who scored five goals and 12 points in 19 games while wearing the Flaming ‘C.’

One can’t help but wonder if Strome is doing this in order to help pave a career in the media world following his hockey career. He has just one more season remaining on his contract with a $5 million cap hit.

That isn’t to suggest that Strome is going to call it quits following the 2026-27 season, but more of a thought that this line of work could be right up his alley once his career is wrapped up. Regardless, it will be pretty neat for Flames fans to see one of their own breaking down some playoff games on TV over the next few weeks.
