Calgary Flames head coach Ryan Huska isn’t done coaching this season.
For the second straight year, Huska will be working as an assistant coach with Team Canada at the IIHF World Championship. Spencer Carberry (WSH) and DJ Smith (LAK) will also be serving as assistant coaches, while Misha Donskov, who last served as an assistant coach for the Dallas Stars, will be the main man in charge.

Huska, 50, just wrapped up his third season as the head coach of the Flames. He has amassed a 113-106-29 record for a .514 winning percentage in his 248 games behind the bench.
Prior to his current position with the Flames, Huska spent five seasons with the team as an assistant coach. He also served as the head coach of the Flames’ AHL affiliate (Adirondack Flames/Stockton Heat) from 2014 to 2018.
Shortly before the 2025-26 season got underway, it was announced that Huska had agreed to a two-year contract extension with the Flames.
Huska will be the lone Flames representative on Team Canada, though he won’t be the only individual from the organization taking part in the tournament.
Goaltender Devin Cooley will be suiting up for the USA, while Martin Pospisil, after also competing at the 2026 Winter Olympics, will be playing for Slovakia. Last but certainly not least is Olli Maatta, who will be representing Finland.
This year’s tournament is set to take place in Zurich and Fribourg, Switzerland. Action will get underway on May 15 and will continue through May 31.
It was the USA who were able to capture gold at last year’s tournament, defeating Switzerland by a 1-0 final in overtime with Tage Thompson picking up the lone goal.
As for Canada, they’ll be looking for a much better result this time around, as last year’s tournament saw them lose to Denmark by a 2-1 final in the quarterfinals in what is considered one of the biggest upsets in World Championships history.
