Calgary startup is giving free home repair and DIY education to locals

As the COVID-19 crisis continues, Calgarians are adjusting to new routines at home.

We’re also likely more aware of things around the house that we’ve left at the bottom of our to-do list. The urge to pick up a brush, learn how to install shelves, and even undertake more extensive renovation projects is real.

The only issue? Many of us don’t actually know how to do any of these things.

One Calgary startup is stepping in to help: FixIt Service Pros. As a trusted source of knowledge for all home repair and improvement needs, the company helps homeowners take care of their biggest asset.

Since home repairs still need to be carried out during a crisis, FixIt has launched a free education resource called Toolkit to offer guidance during this difficult time — and prevent us from accidentally destroying our homes.

Toolkit by FixIt allows you to get DIY projects and home improvement tasks completed while practicing social distancing. The goal is to help you feel more comfortable and safe in your home. Plus, you’ll learn a new skill or two along the way!

FixIt’s experienced and certified contractors are offering free digital consultation sessions for homeowners, renters, and property managers who are seeking home repair advice while under quarantine.

This means you can book a one-to-one consultation to get DIY-educated and discover tips for some of the most common problems around the home. You can also ask a question through a simple Q&A form.

The Toolkit initiative aims to help Calgarians fix problems at home themselves, with a little virtual assistance from the experts.

FixIt is engaging with the community through two main channels. Here’s what you need to know:

  • You can submit questions to FixIt via this form starting April 20.
  • Questions will be answered within 24 hours, and contractors at FixIt will email users their answers directly.
  • All answers sent to users will be published on the FixIt website by April 26.
  • One-on-one 15-minute Q&A sessions with contractors will be available on April 26 through Zoom. Before then, you can choose the time that works for you here.

If you still don’t feel comfortable tackling a DIY project after consulting with an expert on the Toolkit platform, don’t worry, FixIt is set to launch its digital platform in early May where you’ll be able to find vetted contractors in your area who can easily take care of any job.

Until then, visit fixitservicepros.com to submit any burning home repair questions you have and to book a one-to-one session to help achieve your domestic goals.

You can also take part in the #FixItChallenge by sharing your home improvement or repair project photos to Facebook or Instagram, including the hashtag, and tagging two friends to share their DIY projects. One winner will be given a $100 Home Depot gift card — why can’t that person be you?
